I have this so called friend at work. We work for an ambulance company in California. Our company does stand bys for a couple of race tracks in the area. Last week he was going out to an event and asked to borrow my new portable DVD player (beleive it or not races are borring when you do it all the time). I was hesitent but let him take it. He calls me up like 20 min latter and tells me its broken. He says the sound just isnt working. He says he didnt do anything to it, it just didnt work right outta the box.
I found out 2 days later from the guy he was working with that my so called friend plugged the power cord into the AV out. He fried my new $200 DVD player. The worst part is Ive known the guy like 4yrs and he wont come clean with me. Well thats not the worst part i guess, Im going on vacation in a week and half and that DVD player was going to entertain the kids all the way to Colorado.
Its gonna be a very long trip now with 4 kids screaming are we there yet.
Tell him you know what happened, and dont have anything to do with him other than you having to work with him. I would probaly tell others what he did also, then ignore him.Good luck on keeping the kids occupied, but when I was a kid we played the alphabet game with road signs, find signs with the letter you are looking for.But kids are different these days, they would probaly think that is stupid.
Mad Medic: Your "buddy" knows what he did and most likely is not in a position to replace it for you. For lack of character sounds like he is trying to shift blame elsewhere however lame that attempt is.
Since the DVD player is "new", why not ask your friend to return it to where you purchased it for repair/replacement and explain the situation to their customer service.
Now he is on the "hook" to provide you with a working DVD player....
I would tell him that I already know what he did and this is his chance to come clean and make it right. If he holds his story or refuses to help you pay for a new one I would tan his hide at least 4 diffrent shades.

Definitely have HIM bring it back to the store and have HIM go through the procedure of exchanging it. Make sure if and when you get it back, that it's sealed and hasn't been taken out of the box. Also get back all of the paperwork.
Don't trust the SOB.
