I have a 1989 E150 with an anoying problem with the windshield wipers. When it is set on intermittent it pauses in the middle of the stroke, instead of the bottom, obscuring the view. Is there a simple adjustment to take care of this?
I see I'm not the only one who had this problem...Only mine wouldn't work in the low speed setting, only high speed...
Pull your bottom panel and the dash piece around the wipers and headlight switches...you'll have to look up underneath there and follow the wires from the wiper switch to a little black box....it's up in there good and it's a pain in the *** to pull out, but it will come out...unplug it from the circuit...at this point you can connect it to your wiper switch and the low and high settings will work. What you'll have to do is open that box up and look at every electrical part on the circuit board over good...chances are, something has broken inside there...get a soldering iron, some solder and repair it...not that hard once it's out....one other thing to check to is the ground on the wiper switch...there is a small black wire coming off that connects to a ground...make sure that isn't broken....I also had that little ******* give me fits too....check that ground wire first though....easier than pulling the box....good luck....
After only a couple of years my wipers quit working in the intermittent mode. Another one of those little things you just roll with...Is this controlled by the little black box being referred to?
Ya, I would think so. At first I thought it was the switch, when I pulled it out, that was when I came across the box that controls the intermittents...dealer said it was like $80 for a new one....you should be able to find a yard that will sell it cheap...or open it up and see what's wrong...I was able to fix mine....later
