axle swap question?

I broke the closed knuckle dana 44 in my 74 f-250 and have a dana 44-9f with disk brakes that I am going to swap in. I have a few questions before I get too far along. The shocks on my old axle both mount to the rear of the axle and the shocks on the donor ( a 78 f-250 ) mount one foward of the axle and one behind. How should i go about mounting the shocks when I swap the new one in, both behind or on different sides? Not sure if I explained that right but maybe you can get the idea.

I measured the width from center to center on the springs and they are both the same. So it should be pretty much a bolt in deal I guess. Do I need anything else when switching from drums to disk brakes? Anymore pointers would be appreciated. Thanks, Jake

I put a disc brake front end on my 75 I had to change the proportioning valve master cylinder booster front brake lines but I had a front axle from a early 77 the steering and suspension were the same excepy the 77 used a longer steering arm from the box to the power assist on the swap your doing the steering is different as far as t6he shocks go I would weld a bracket onto the back of thye axle and keep it as stock as possible so as not to puy side flex on the shock mount from the shock being angled the new front end you are using is a hi pinion also so drive shaft may not work

Thanks for the reply Plowpusher. I am not sure about taking this project on right now, with the steering and shocks. I think I will just try to get some parts and fix this axle, but I heard that parts are hard to find. Has anyone else done this swap that has some more pointers? Thanks for the help. Jake
