Help! I tried to change my O2 sensor the other day and it is stuck. I bought a socket for it and warmed up the engine, but when I applied pressure to the socket it rounded off the corners of the sensor. Are there other types of sockets that contact the sides of the sensor rather than the corners, maybe that would work. Anyway, what else can I do to loosen the sensor? Thanks.
One of my favorite attacks to remove a rounded fastener is to put a pipe wrench on it and give the handle a couple swift raps with a ball pein.Of coarse I'll tell you to spray penetrant as well a few hours before hand. Also,if you have a small torch, either hobby or propane, you can sufficiently heat the sensor to expand the joint for easier removal also, but be careful with the penetrant as it will fire up when exposed to direct flame.

Kyle ,
If you have never used it before , this stuff is magic for undoing anything time , rust and heat and locked in place ...Its called PB Blaster . Most auto parts stores carry it and I even saw it at the Wal Market the other day. Spray the sensor with it , let it sit for 5 mins or so and it will come undone . Plus Ive used something called the Clench Wrench from Sears on rounded off nuts . It looks kind of feeble but dont let that fool you , it locks onto just about anything that used to resemble a nut . Make sure you use some anti seize on the new O2 Sensor in case you have to tackle it again . Good luck w it ,

It sounds like you will need a pipe wrench now. The other thing is don't heat up the engine. It does allow the nut in the exhaust to expand, however the o2 sensors material expands more and actually causes the thing to stick in there even more. If you can not get it loose, it will be time to get out the drill. Good luck.
