I wish I had more incab room, but I don't think I could live with the bigger turning radius that comes with an extended cab. Maybe one day I'll be able to put a crew cab on my frame and run a tiny flatbed or something. Or I could just get a bronco...
Wheel base of my 81 mudder is approx 130" but I like it , espically in the mud as a lot of the people I race against are normally shorter (in the classes i can run in up here anyway) and that means that i don't get stuck in holes that they tend to dig. Plus its not to big to be a pain to trailer, and it helps keep the weight down too.
I will be shortening the wheelbase by moving the rear axle forward about 4" to avoid having a new rear shaft made when i get the lift thrown in hear at the end of the month.
i have been curious and been doing my homework b/c i will be chopping my frame soon. i know i know "wheelbase is what you make of it" but a shorter WB will fit the bill much better than trying to trail ride my strung out 159" WB
i have decided that my is goal is one of two things:
A) if i can get a driveshaft length that is exac for both front and rear so that i only have to carry one spare then i will be doing that.
B) otherwise i will be shooting for about 110-115" just depending. thats 3.5" feet i will be shedding people!
it should be a huge advantage in the weight distribution department and the turning radius should be a HELLUVA lot better! i have a flat bed comig that i will use to build a short but useful bed out of.
then i gotta figure out how to mount my 150 gallon aluminum tank i got free from a buddy. (i will be cutting it in half at least!)
Yeah fish a shorter wheelbase would definetely help you out for your area, sound like you have a pretty sweet idea. I just wish i didnt live so far from your area, it is probably the place i would most like to wheel in. Granted th family ranch has about 11,000 acres to wheel on any time that i want, and the crick bottoms are probably alot like your area (trees, wet climbs etc) but it kinda sucks cuz i live out in the boonies (40 miles from the closest place i would call a town, 12 miles to the closest highway) and and not many poeple wheel around here, just comp mud bog.
lol you gonna ship me 2 front rockies? i know i can't afford it right now. i mean its my long term plan to throw my 1 tons under my EB and then run 2 front rockies for rear steer BUT, thats mucho dinero. hell i can't even afford my next set of tires! lol
