New member needs help!
-I am installing a TCI Mustang ll front suspension. In the instructions they provide a reference dimension of 20 1/2" from the center line of the front spring mount hole to the center of the new crossmember. Before reading the instructions I welded up the extra holes I would not need so now my reference point to locate the new crossmember is gone. I am hoping someone could measure or tell me what the dimension from the front end of the frame to the centerline of the location of the stock Ford front axle should be. From that location I will locate the new crossmember 1 1/2" forward to center the front wheels.
-When purchased this truck had no box. Where there both short and long boxes available in 53? Is there a difference in the truck frames between a short and long box?
Thank you in advance for any help provided.

Good luck

Do know the rear springs are shorter on a 53. You could measure the wheel base stock is 110" but you may want to move the front axle forwards 1-1/2 to 2" to better center the tire in the fender opening.
Earl will be along shortly with the definitive answers.
Someone on this forum will be able to give you a dimension for the TCI IFS location. I have a FatMan MII kit, so no help there.
Yes, there were F100 (short) and F250 (long) boxes available in 53 AND the frames were different. It will be easy to know which frame you have. The short box is 78 inches inside and about 80 inches (max) long outside-to-outside. The frame ends just short of the bed box in the rear. Do a quick tape measure of your frame from the rear cab mount (clevis sticking outboard of the frame rail) to the rear of the frame. If it comes out around 83 inches (or so), you have the 1/2 ton short box (F100). If it's more like 99 inches, it's an F250 frame.
