disc brakes

I know that this has been beat to death but can I put disc brake assemblies on my 1969 Twin I beams that have drum brakes ? Or do I have to change to different I-Beams in order to go to disc brakes? In other words is there a difference in the I-beams?

There are two great articles on this swap and there are lots of info in the threads
so I would do a search and turn up all the info you can, the articles really
make it go smooth.

Search especially on '65 and '66 trucks in the '61 - '66 forum.

the difference in the two is only the length of the kingpin. one is slightly longer than the other. same diameter though.

If you use the spindles from a 73-77 truck the kingpin length shouldn't matter. Some say it's easier to remove the I-Beams to do this conversion but not necessary, the kingpins can be a b##%ch. You can do the conversion for less than $350.

I kept the axles on my '71 - changed spindles with new kingpins.

So it is the same beams and change the spindles and new/longer kingpins for a switch to disc brakes? Will do a search for full info but for now this gets me started in planning, thanks guys

Yes the spindles fit your I beam, you will need king pins for your year truck,
the truck you will be installing the spindles on because the retaining bolt is
in a lower or higher location, don't really remember its been a while!

Thanks Pro-Street/StateTK. Good to find out BEFORE I take it apart as I am driving it as much as I can during the summer and parking it during the winter/salt weather. Have my 67 Mustang apart to install new lower controll arms only to find out the wrong ones were supplied and have to order the right ones from Cal. Hurry up and wait!
