Sounds cool. I just rebuilt a 390 FE big block that is bored 40 over with a C6 tranny in my 51 F1. If I ever remember to take my digi camera to the shop I will get some pics. There was an older 390 in it out of a 63 Galaxy 500 that I sold and I bought this 72 390 and rebuilt it to put back in there. I also clipped it with an MII with coil overs from Jim Weimer that I am real happy with. I have been looking for headers to clear my A-Arms and steering and have been looking for months for a decent set that is not an arm and a leg. I just found some a local muffler shop guy had that I stopped into and ran into by chance. I could not believe he had them. He said I was the first guy with an FE motor that had been in there in 5 years or more. And these headers were perfect. It was like they were made for a clipped F1 with a big block. I am still in shock at finding them and all he wanted for them was 80 bucks. Never been installed. Anyway I fabbed a new firewall because the guy before just beat in the original and it was all gacked up. My motor recesses into the firewall slightly, but it fits in there pretty good with plenty of room for the radiator and fan.
51, Welcome to the board! That sounds like an awesome project and I wish you well with it. If (and when) you get hung up somewhere on the project, you can usually find the answer, advice, technical support, etc here (or at the very least some kind words). Tell us more about the truck, show us some pics if you have any.
I stuffed a 500ci Caddy engine in my 49. You just gotta love cubic inches

ECI and MP Brakes both have disc brake adapter kits that will work. I bouth the basic kit from ECI which comes with the spindle adapters and caliper brackets. When installing the adapters make sure the spindles are clean and smooth (hit them with a touch of emery cloth) while you are doing that put the spindle adapters in the oven at about 450 degrees or so (this will cause them to expand) Then one side at a time take them out to the spindle and slide them on. You might have to whack them with a driver to make sure they are firmly seated. The whole process was quick and easy on my truck
For a power steering box, look at the 80 -85 Toyota 4x4 box. It's a small compact box that in most cases can mount in the original location. Basically its the PS box from Toyota trucks before they went to independant front suspension.
Once you get a few posts under your belt you'll be able to search the archive. Both of these subjects come up all the time and there is tons of great info about them.
