Can anyone tell me how many Amp alternator came stock on my 94 Bronco 5.8 ? Does anyone know if I can upgrade my stock one with something with more power. When I turn my stereo up the lights go dimm and the volt meter starts jumping around. I had this same stereo system in my 93 E-150 5.0 and didn't have a problem. The only thing I can think of is maybe Ford puts bigger alternators on thier Vans

I'm thinking the stock ones put out 60 amps, at least that's what it was on my '88 Bronco. If you want an easy upgrade, install a 130 amp alternator from a '94-'95 Mustang GT or Cobra with the 5.0L engine. I think you have the right plugs for the alternator- if not, it's really easy to adapt your wiring. Dustin:
Make sure and check with the dealer or parts store begore you upgrade your alternator.I replaced mine a while back and I remember reading somthing about not replacing it with a higher voltage alternator. Im not sure if its becouse of the computer system. Anyways check into it first so you dont end up causing more problems for yourself.
My truck is a 94 and I believe it has a 85 amp. My guess is that your alternator is getting ready to take a dump and a new one will solve your problem. Also make sure you have good grounds.
Good luck.
If your alt checks out, and you still have the same problem, you might consider installing a 2nd alternator. A GM is a 2 wire hook up and the wiring diagram is fairly easy, it can also be completely isolated from your existing system.
The second altenator setup sounds interesting. You can also set up a GM altenator (85,100, or 140 amp) to run everything. My '82 had a 60 amp and I replaced it with a 100 amp GM altenator.
