need help id'ing stuff!

Ok i just got a 1964 F-250. Its sweet, but i need some help. I need to find out what rear end and tranny it has in it or ways i can find out. First off it has a 223 I-6 whith a 4speed, first gear is a granny gear and reverse is up and to the right. Then the rear end is a full floating 8lug axle and the drums perty well fill up the 16.5 rims on it. The diff cover is symetrical too. Thanks for the help help guys.

Look on the lower row of the door tag under "axle". Post that code. Also look for the tag that may still be on one of the bolts that hold the rear end cover on. Right now, all that can be said is it's a Dana 60 axle.

If you look at the tag and post the info, I can tell you what you want to know.

Vin will tell you alot, unless it's not stock.

The rear axle is either a Dana60 or a Ford 9". The Dana has a cover with bolts holding it on on the back of the axle. the Ford 9" has a center section that bolts in from the front. On the ford's passanger side axle tube there will be a few ID numbers that tell what gears are in it.

The 4 speed with a granny is probably an NP435. There are a few others, but the NP435 has a very deep granny and used in heavy duty applications and 4X4s.

The tranny could also be a T-18 which has reverse over to the right and up. NP 435 is over and down.

i know itdosnt have the 435 or a 9", 82 F-150 has a 435 gear box and a 9". The axle just didnt look like the Dana 60s i have seen (but all of those have been front end GM axles). I was wondering if it was a T-18 myself. Is there a ID plate somewhere on the tranny to look for?

Usually the "T-18" is cast into the case on the side. The second line of your serial number plate has all the codes to identify the trans, rear end and ratio, etc... Alot easier than crawling on the ground. Just list them and we can tell you what you've got.

VIN#
128 K F250 081 F26
7500 114 3600 74

Thanks for the help again guys.

Here's what I deciphered:

128= wheel base in inches
K= exterior color ( not listed in my book)
F250= model
081= Regular or standard cab with black all vinyl bench seat
F26= F 250 4x4
7500= GVW
114= hp generated at below listed RPM
3600= RPM
74= DSO ( district sales office, Seatttle)

well then the cab or maybe just the door is not from my truck. My truck is a 2wd so i guess ill just crakc open the axle and start looking for ID numbers and such on the ring gear to find out my gear ratios and axle modle...

Probably the doors been replaced. If it's a F-250, it's a Dana 60 axle.
