1982 F150, 300, 4 speed, new tires, flatbed made by a guy that makes flatbeds for a living. Needs a battery and a power steering hose. Unknown mileage but says it runs great.
make sure she runs great and ask to take a test drive with the seller in it, esp is u dont know this guy. some guy just got burned with a 300 that the seller ran great and had no pressure in the #5 cyl.
i have the same type o deal goin on. hopefully im gettin a 5 speed with transfer case from a good ol boy from Arkansas for $200. as soo as i get it (if i do) im takin it to my tranny guy and havin him make sure everything is ok. im also gonna take pix to make sure it is a 5 speed.
Either way, the way I am thinking, the flatbed itself is worth a few hundred too. New tires are worth that as well. Even if the engine was junk, it still might be a fair deal.
true. if u got a good body n at and a crap powertrain, its open for personalization. you can do a lot to an old Ford, and the 300 is a good place to start. have fun and i hope all works out for ya.
Got a guy going to look at it for me tonight I hope. Its 120 miles from here so I wont run up unless he gives me the ok. I would rather spend $800 on something like this, and be able to 'personalize' it, then to spend $2000 and still have to 'personalize it'. )
Ha! $800 ain't worth much. Yup, how's the body?
I bought an 83 almost a month ago for $900 with 166,000 mi. Great body, low oil pressure and jerky take offs. New oil pump, main and rod bearings (While I was in there) and fixing all the vacuum line leaks got it starting to purr a little. It takes a lot of work but if looks good and you can handle that yourself...
They say the body is good, little rust. I wont tolerate rot though, so that will be the determining factor. I dont care how ugly it is, I am a 'function' type guy. I want a sleeper, so to speak.
