D vs E load range

I sold my 5th wheel trailer but am keeping my 99 F350 CC, 2WD. So I won't be loading the tires like I did before.

The Firestones are shot: still has tread but sidewalls cracking badly (at 50,000 miles).

Should I stay with the E load range or is D load range OK? Ds are a little cheaper, and may ride a little softer. I plan to stay with the 265-75-16 unless there is a good reason to go wider. Planning to go with Bridgestone Revos but will consider others if I cn find a lot cheaper. E load range is $162 at Costco (includes lifetime rotation/balance, flat repair, road hazard).

What are your thoughts? Thanks.

If you go with D's, Look at the BFG All terrains they look good, work better, and last longer.

The Revo is an outstanding tire. I would have put a set on this truck but they dont offer it with the proper load rating for the 17" wheel. D rating should be OK without the 5er. I put 285/70/17 Toyo ATs load range D on my F250. Rides much better than before.

I have 265/75/16 Revos on my Ex and I love them. They are "E" load range though. If you don't need the higher load limit, the Revo's come in a 285/75/16 "D" load. They will look alot better under your SD!!

TireRack.com has all the load limits for tires. Figure what you need and then see what the tires you are considering have. I have upsized so much in the past that I sometimes replace E's with D's that have comparable weight limits. Example: On my 15 passenger Ford vans, I remove the 245/75 x 16 E rateds and put 265's in front and 285's in back (all D rated). Part of the weight limit comes from the construction of the tires and some comes from the size of the tire. The more volume inside a tire, the higher the limit.

I replaced the Firestones on my truck with B F Goodrich ATs although the bfgs are D not E the load is not a lot lower. The side wall on the BFGs are 3 ply in stead of 2. The ATs ride better than the old Firestones.

D vs E load range... Go with E when running 265/75/16, the Revo in this size should ride quite well. The heavier weight rating in the 265 size could be a critical factor someday on the road far, far away from home. The issue with 285's (D rated) is possible complications from mounting on a stock 7 inch rim which is narrower than typically spec'ed for a 285- While I do run 285's studded snow tires in the winter on my PSD, I don't do any heavy pulling during those months.

I'm considering getting some new "summer" tires which I will use for heavy towing using stock 7 inch rims. The 265 E have similar weight ratings to a 285 D but just as rlh68050 stated earlier, the 285's sure look better on a SD. With that said, what are the opinions on running 285/75/16 on stock 7 inch rims while pulling heavier loads?

Disclaimer: Not trying to highjack the thread, only highlighting the the common SD issue of 265 E vs 285 D
