the driver side power window on my 94 f350 4x4 7.3l idi is messed up. i can hear the motor turning but the window will not go up I heard theres a gear replacement kit. does this sound like what I need and how long does it take??
I just did a window motor replacement on a Camaro and had to buy an over-sized pop rivet gun. Plus it was one of those jobs that would've gone a lot quicker if I done it different. You may want to talk to someone that has done it before to get the inside scoop.
I finally remembered what happened. For this Chevy, the motor and gear/bracket assembly needed to be removed as one piece. Then secure the main gear to the bracket (it's spring loaded and WILL cause injury if not properly secured). Then the motor can be removed and replaced. The whole assembly was held in with large sized pop rivets. I might have been able to use nuts and bolts to secure it, but rivets were a lot quicker. I've also replaced a motor on an 85 Mercury Capri (similar to the Mustangs) and it was easy to just swap out the motor without remove the mounting hardware. I'm not sure if newer Fords are the same.
just got done with it took about 1.5 hours. you have to drill out the 4 rivets that hold it in.I replaced them with short bolts. wasn't as bad as i thought it would be
