Help!! No taillights!!

Help!! No taillights!!
A buddy of mine has a 2003 F150 & we took out the stock deck & put in a Sony Explod Cd player, we did it all with the wiring harnesses you can buy from the store, like your suppost to do , but every since we have, his taillights have stoppped working... we've checked all the fuses, bulbs, they are all fine. However, when you pull up on the negative battery terminal (just right) then they come on. I'm totally clueless on how to fix this problem. Please help?

If you pull up on the negative side of the battery they come on? Try a test light to see if
you have power back their with someone pushing the brake pedal if this happened
when you put the new sony in i would check your grounds take test light to ground
any where if the test light works then i would say you lost ground to your brake
