Hello all. Is it possible for the A/C compressor to leak oil? My 88 F150's seems to be doing that. Oil is all over around the power steering pump and the AC Compressor. The A/C is above the PS pump. The bottom of the A/C looks black and greesy, and I can't notice any fluid level change in the steering system. Do the compressors have oil in them? Thanks much for any help!
Yes, air compressors do indeed contain oil. Mine has a green tinge to it. The oil is mixed in with the freon or R134a and circulates through the entire cooling system.
Katt ,
I have a 90 F150 and the A/c compressor has leaked for yrs . Its still is the best A/c I have ever used in any vehicle . Even in 90 deg weather it still cools great , In fact after a long drive I find it gets too cool for me ...about 50 deg coming out of the vents . Until it dies completely , I wouldnt mess w it . I occasionally degrease it when I do a major clean up .
