How difficult would they be to install on a 78 Ford F-250? It appears that all I would have to do is:
1. Lift the body off the axle
2. Loosen or remove the u-bolts
3. Remove the leaf center pin
4. Place the add a leaf on bottom (below the lower most leaf and the base plate)....
Does the add a leaf extend the whole length of the original leaf an thus need to be secured via retainer bracket to the other leafs?
Do you have to C-clamp the center of the leafs prior to removing the oringinal center pin?
If the center pin is rusted, can the pin be drilled out?
support the vehichle with jack stands under the frame. slide a floor jack under the axle( this will allow you to raise and lower the axle). secure the spring pack with a c-clamp before removeing the u-bolts and center pin, remove u-bolts. remove the old center pin and slowly release the c-clamp. the add-a-leaf should ( if i can remember ) be installed above the original overload spring. secure with the c-clamp install a NEW center pin and NEW u-bolts. repeat other side. make sure that the NEW center pin is installed into the hole of the factory block . and torque every thing to factory specs and then check after driving a 100 miles or so. hope this helps.......
