My truck (98 F150 V6) has been worry free since I bought it last year. Within the last week, the ABS fuse in the cab blew, tripping the ABS light to flash 14 times before repeating. I replaced the fuse and it worked for a couple of days, but today it blew again. I'm going to do a wiring trace from the fuse box to the ABS module (wherever its hidden) and see if I can find a short in the wiring. Does anybody know what color the wire is coming out of the fuse box and where the module is located (please don't say buried behind the dashboard, please don't say buried behind the dashboard) Racer kinda helped be out by indentifying the 14 flashes, but never elaborated as to what it meant
Sorry about the delay.
After looking in the Haynes manual, I'm not sure it will be much help.
I don't find a wiring diagram of the fuse panel.
Based on the wiring diagrams that are provided, it looks like the dark green wire picks 12 volts off the circuit fead thru fuse 29 (5 amp) which is hot in start or run mode.
This dark green 12v wire feeds the insturment panel (lamp) and the RABS module.
This leads me to believe the dark green wire is not the wire to focus on. If the fuse was in-line with this wire, then the 12 v circuit feeding the indicator lamp would be open and the light would never light up.
I wish I had more/better info but Haynes leaves us a bit shy of details on this one.
Mini update: after a hunch, I propped a board against the brake pedal with the blown fuse and you can guess what I saw next.......no brake lights. Put a new fuse in and I have lights again, at least until this fuse blows.
That and my front driver caliper that won't release, and this has been a good morning.
ABS TROUBLE:
For now- to eliviate your locking caliper, have you tried unplugging your ABS all together? That would fix the fuse problem, and the locking caliper atleast until you can fix it. I would also check the ABS sensors on your wheels. You should have one on each wheel--- hope this helps..:-)
Woah, talk about a blast from the past. If I remember correctly (and I do because I figured it out) the "aftermarket" (i.e.: my ****ty wiring job) wiring running the brake light on my truck cap chaffed enough that the 2 wires were rubbing against each other and shorting out every time I hit the brake pedal. Solution: remove the wiring.
Sorry about that-- I didn't notice the 2005!!! lol...Glad you figured it out-- I had no idea it was after market:-) I went in and unplugged my ABS all together.. Now I am replacing the sensors on the wheels.. no biggie really- they are cheap enough!
