Timing
I need to find out if I turn the distributer to the left or the right (looking into the engine bay from the front) if its increasing the timing or decreasing it. My pullies are so worn that the marks are unreadable. Thanks,

This method will work on any engine. With the distributor cap off have someone turn on key to start position monetarily (or hook up a remote starter switch) and then watch which way the rotor turns. Turning the distributor in the direction the rotor is turning will advance the timing and going the opposite way will retard it.

On all of the 4.9L engines the rotor turns clockwise. Turning the distributor counter clockwise advances the timing.
Note that the firing order is clockwise. Turning the distributor in the opposite direction of firing order advances the timing.
