JUst was looking under my 02 V10 and I see on the rear axle a skid plate looking thing over the passanger side's shock mount (at the axle) and none on the other side...am I missing one?
What truck shares more suspension and chassis parts with the Excursion the 250 or 350...or are they both the same?
Also in looking under the truck when changing the oil....what's the deal with the Y pipe, I can't remember seeing a more pathetic looking joint where the sides come together....it's necked down and so skinny and comes together at a right angle...this can't be good. Are there any good quality properly designed Y pipes on the market?
Thanks...
Off to Carlisle in the morning....we'll see what she really does on the hwy on her first real trip.....I think I'll see 15+mpg...if I'm thrifty.
Most folks haven't figured out that "skid plate" (it's not a skid plate) on the passenger side. Later models do not have it. Some will say it's there to hold the parking brake cable ... I disagree because such a massive piece of metal must serve some other purpose. But if it does have a purpose, why was it deleted from later models?
All the SuperDuty models share similarities and the "shape" of certain parts, but ratings/capacities can be quite different ... such as the multitude of leaf spring rates available.
The Y-pipe has not been an issue with me. I had a crack further down the tailpipe ... behind the muffler.
