My pickup makes a "urp" (that sounds like a chirp, if that makes sense) noise from the back almost everytime it takes off in first gear. It's a 96 with an automatic tranny. I'd suspect the u-joint if hadn't been replaced 6 months ago. I was thinking maybe it's the rear end. ??? I crawled under it several times to look but I cannot find anything outta place.
I heard another mid 90's F150 make this same noise at a stop light the other day when he took off. Is this a common thing?
Oh, one more thing, it has a slight jerk when it does it, too. Nothing serious, hardly noticable. I'm guessing it's whenever it shifts into first gear.
dose it have a slip yoke or a slip joint???? also check for broken springs, loose u bolts and stuff, my buddy has a 98 chevy 1500, It was lifted 6" and had blocks in the rear, when you would take of and sometimes when you would stop it would make a loud squeek, and clunk, it was axle warp from the blocks, took em' out put re-arced springs in and it fixed it, so i would defidently look everything over, including shackles and bushings
My 95 had the same thing goin on. U joints weren't even 5 months old and they had stiffened up one way and then it would squeek/chirp while accelerating or coming to a stop. Replaced it the other day and no more noise.
Hmmm....yeah I checked out all the springs and ubolts and nothing looks broke or outta place....I'm really considering replacing the ujoint now. I'm not sure if it s a slip yoke or slip joint....How do I tell the difference?
slip yoke, is when it slides into the tranny, slip joint, is when there is a slide in the drive shaft and it bolts to the tranny, or transfer case. if its a slip joint, i would take the shaft out and grease it, and check your u joints, if its a slip yoke, theres nothing you can do and i would check my u-joints, Did you use cheap ones? or good ones, (u-joints)???
??? I don't know what kind of u-joint it was. The used car dealer that I bought it from replaced the rear u-joint when I bought it because it caused a terrible vibration going down the road.
