carb selection/please help?

have a 1985 f150 5.0 aod//i want to carburate this motor and scrap fuel injection,computer etc,
too many headaches at this age////what do i need for a carburator? the aod needs to be hooked up properly or ill cook the trans///responses frm both edelbrock and holley say 'we do not recommend the use of our carbs w/ aod'////what to do????????

Sounds like a big project. I'm curious as to why you can't run an AOD with a carb??? But, since it is and older vehicle, why not buy a rebuilt C6 from TCI or TPI or B&M to go with your new carbed setup? They run about $800 bucks, but that's cheaper than an overall on a cooked tranny.

you can use aod w/ carb but the tv cable must be connected and properly adjusted//it has something to do w/ internal lubrication in the trans....it is an easy project unless i f/u the trans....

carb selection/please help?

We just installed an edelbrock 1404 on an 84 flareside with aod last week. We ordered it on line from summit but there was no mention of this aod problem. Everything hooked up just fine. they even suggested the additional parts needed to hook up to a Ford. Not too many miles on it yet but will keep you posted if we have any problems. This truck was carbed originally with a 2bbl. We did have to install a 4bbl manifold. It runs great--- real fast---not sure about gas mileage yet though.
