Through playing devil's advocate

It's been a long time since I've been on this site guys.
I've been busy with work and other interests for awhile now.
Man, where to begin...well first I need to apologise to the many Ford
owners I've managed to belittle and infuriate in times past. I apologise
to you moderators for all the baiting tactics I've used as well.

At the time I truly believed I was offering some "enlightenment" for those who, in my view, were ignorant. Little did I know how ignorant I truly was.
I am sorry to all of you. Man, where was my head? These Ford Super Duties are the BEST trucks going bar none. They may not be flashy. They may not offer many of the refinements of some competition offerings, but man - they are ALL TRUCK.

Before the end of this year I'm going to buy a 2005/2006 Super Duty regular cab 4x4 6.0/6 speed, I've already started budgeting it in to my expenses.
This is the very engine I constantly bedeviled in prior posts. I've seen and actually used so many of them now - there is nothing wrong with this engine.
And in fact, there is nothing else quite like it out there - including the Cummins.

Sorry to take so long getting back on this...where are my old "buds" Fordlariat, 150Ford and MW95250 lurking? We've had some serious slug fests while I was enroute to the darkside of the truck world...lol.

Truth be told I do like all trucks in general and always have. I still like the Cummins engine also. When I talked of the 6.0 the last time I was here, it was simply pure prejudice based on other's experiences, opinions, and many times just rumors with either no, or at most, very scanty evidence to support claims. I figured so many people can't be wrong, but now I know they can.

I guess I personified the quote about the guy who knows the least critisizing the most (regarding the 6.0, of course ). It is of course, known that many 03 and a few 04 PSD's had various problems and teething issues, but even these I am now sure represent but a very small portion of the trucks actually sold with this engine.

The fact is this, while GM and Dodge both have managed to increase sales and concurrently Ford has lost market share, Ford still sells many many more PSD's than GM sells Duramaxes or Dodge sells Cummins. The reason for this is that these trucks are still fullfilling customer expectations for performance and reliability irregardless of any former issues either real or imagined.

I had never actually owned a 6.0 before, and in fact never knew a single person with a discernable problem (one I could see for myself) - everything I'd heard was heresay more or less. For all the problems reported online, I don't know a single one of these guys reporting these problems from Adam.
I simply believed what I'd heard and became disgruntled with Ford for dropping the 7.3. People lie. I'm sure that not everyone has lied about problems regarding their trucks, but I'm quite positive now that much more than a few have...

On the otherhand I have met and become aquainted with 13 gentlemen who own 14 6.0 trucks between them, and with the exception of one who had to take his truck in for an injector replacement (long before I ever knew him), none has ever required engine related warranty work for their trucks. One also has had a door adjustment and another required warranted work on his transmission, but thats it for the whole lot of 14 trucks.

All but one of these trucks are used for construction work and see much more work than an average weekend RV hauling rig would normally see. A few have multiple drivers, some of whom cannot even speak english, and could care less really about mistreating the company truck, yet still no troubles to be seen or heard from these "failure prone" engines in these trucks.

Every one of the aforementioned owners has expressed complete satisfaction with the mechanical relibility that these trucks offer. This is what I have actually seen for myself and none of that doomsday stuff thats always being spread online about the 6.0.

I'll dispell another myth right now - the one about the 6.0 having no torque down low with a manual transmission. It's simply not true. I must admit that I did manage a test drive of one manual equipt truck a couple years ago and it did seem very lacking to me at the time - though not nearly so bad as I had heard about in complaints on the internet. Looking back I'd say that was probably one of the 1 in a hundred trucks that actually needed motor work even being brand new on the lot, because every manual I've driven since then has plenty down low - not quite as much as a Cummins does, but more than enough to get off the line empty with no throttle in low, first, and second gears, how much more low end do you need?!

The ZF is a wonderful 6speed transmission, it's notchy, slow shifting, tough as nails, and it'll spit at you if you try to rush it along, reminds me of an old
SM465, oh how I love it. Low for the ZF may only be 5.79 compared to 6+ in the older gear boxes, but believe me, once your granny gear is over 5 to 1, it all feels the same since their all way too low for normal unloaded driving anyway, it's geared plenty low enough for anything anyone could use a truck for.

It's funny how every salesmen will recommend an automatic "better resale", "will pull more", "standards are obsolete", "the 6.0 is no good with a manual", etc, but all the service guys recommend the 6 speed "We havent had a single one in for warranty repairs and we sell lots of them", "Stick will last longer", "Even the Torqueshift won't last like the 6 speed", "We use a 6 speed in our dealer plow truck", etc. I have actually heard all of this from both sides, though to be honest, only 5 of the 6.0 trucks I see just about everyday are 6 speeds, so of the 9 TS trucks, only one has had to have trans warranty work done to it from what I'm told.

Ford has the best looking truck going. The 6.0 turned out to be a non issue and I am going to purchase one with a six speed. This is one helluva truck gents. I don't need a drw, but the extra capacity and stability certainly
won't hurt, and in addition to this I get the Dana 80 rear axle with the dually.

Just giving an objective view based on non rumors and actual experiences over the past year and a half since I've last posted here, I am much better informed now. And since this is the forum in which I regularly trolled, I feel it's the best one in which to make my penance .

It is good to see you back from the dark side. Usually when I read your posts I kind of ignored them. Maybe I will read them again...

It seems more and more that automatics are becoming more trouble some in all cars and trucks today. Tractors included.

Hey man glad to have you back. I was kind off worried Id thought you had died or something. I looked at your profile an you hadnt even checked the site or posted for a long time. I even started a thread if anybody knew where you were at. Boy Im glad to here from you again. Sounds like you are a big advocate off the 6.0. Glad to here.

You know people that have one an tell you there experiences with it. MW95250 is till around but doesnt post as much. I see Ford Lariat is still active as well. It still gets pretty heated in this forum as well. You need to post your information over to the 6.0 forum. That would enlighten people alot. Welcome back an let the debates begin.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, it's good to have time again and interest in being here conversing with you fellas. As you can see, there have been some changes in my attitude regarding the 6.0 - all I can say is, nothing beats actual first hand experience with a product. Unless you've been there, or at least have seen many who have, you simply cannot know what your talking about with regard to any subject.

Thanks again!
