Yes got a few questions about converting a 1985 Ford F350 Crew Cab dually 6.9 diesel 4spd 2wd to 4wd. Will a transfer case off a 97 Ford F350 crew cab single wheel 4wd bolt up to my 4spd, will the drivelines work, the leaf springs off the front and the axles all work on mine. on the axles ill just have to put the drums and such to where ill have the dual wheels and all right, the front leaf springs will bolt up wont they to the holes already in the frame or should i bolt them on and then weld them or not. another thing is should i use the leaf springs off the 4wd one and put them on my 2wd on the back or not, what all would i need off the 97 to convert mine to 4wd if all the stuff would work just wondering, also would the turbo off the 97 powerstroke bolt up anyway possible to my 6.9 diesel or not just wondering. any info or help would be greatly appreciated thanks alot Lance
Sounds like you got a donar truck problem I'm not sure it the bolt pattern is the same on the trannys. IF it is I'd swap everything tranny to front dif. if you're planning on using your tranny I don't believe that tranfer case will work unless its a divorsed unit.those turbos have been thrown on these old motors. you will probably need lift blocks for the rear I had 4" stock from the factory. sping probably are not to different.
yes well what about if i found a 86 Ford 3/4 ton 4wd everything on it should bolt up right and on the converting the axles to 1 ton dual wheels how would that work exactly and another thing if i was able to get this pickup where could i find long enough drive lines to put on the front axle to transfer case and then the back one too and then after i got all this done id like to put about a 4" lift on it if possible any info would be greatly appreciated on this thanks lance
Well the front driveline should not change from different wheelbases. the relationship of the transfer case/tranny/motor are the same for all of them . you will have to shorten your existing rear driveline to compinsate for the t-case. Use the front driveshaft from the donor truck.
A 3/4 ton would have a TBB not a bad system. But, I would get a one ton with a solid front axle much stronger and easier to swap in.
Re gear the New front diff to you'r existing rear diff then you can keep your one ton axle and just put rotors, hubs and the Duallie extensions from a F350.
k got a question a friend of mine has a dana 78HD with a detroit locker in it one ton dual wheel axle wanting 1500 for it then he has a transfer case and all the other stuff i would need for the front for all of it i could get it for 2250 how does that sound but the front axle id have to put a detroit in it too though
Ok I'm not sure how that would work but I'm just trying to make it easy for ya. if you got a welder some extra and the time and money to go nuts with any axle set up go ahead and do it nothing is impossible. unless you run off a donar truck its going to make a large headache as far as getting this done to your truck. I'd go with a dana 60 up front off a one ton like dt466 said those axles are wide even on a swr truck. try and find somthing the same year as yours ethier 83-86 or 87-94.5(rear abs).
also what do you wnat to do with this truck? Why lockers front and rear? I plowed some deep snow and put my truck through the pases I never got stuck with it (not that I really tried to but It did more than I though it would without lockers)
k if i dont convert it to 4wd and want to put a 6spd transmission in is there any adapter ill need or not and how would i put a 2 way slippter tranny in there too and if i dont put a 6spd in how would i do the 2 way spliter tranny in there to give me a high and low on a 4spd basically give me 8 gears but without using an air splitter on it any help would be thankful thanks Lance
