Transfer case dead
I was out in the mud today when suddenly a loud grinding came from under my truck. In 4 wheel, it makes the noise when it's in gear, moving or not. and in 2 wheel it's fine. So i figure it has to be the t-case. My questions are, how hard is it to rebuild one of these cases ('91 f150), and is it alright to drive the truck in 2 wheel? I'm figuring i'll get one out of a junk yard, rebuild it, and swap it out, mainly so the truck has minimal downtime. Thanks for any help.

Ok well I have good news on it. I just went in my driveway to test it again and it's acting totally normal, I did a 4 wheel burnout in 4 low. I think what happened was the case slipped somewhere between neutral and 4hi last night. I think I'll still see into gettting one to rebuild, just it's no rush anymore. I guess the shift forks are wearing out.
