I took my truck out tonight for a short trip to run an errand. Today it started something new. As I go to accelerate, it seems as though it's either starving for gas or for air.. it loses power. If I push the gas pedal much further, it finally picks way up. In otherwords, it seems as though it struggles while the pedal is part way down and as you get it much closer to the floor the symptoms go away and you get a bunch of power. This made accelerating from a stop very difficult (unless I really punched it).
Just a brief history, the gas tank was coated 2 or 3 hundred miles or so ago. The fuel filters were replaced at the same time. None of the spark plug wires appear to be off. I haven't changed or messed with anything that I know of.
What kinds of things should I look for? It was driving fine for a few months until today. It will idle just fine.
if it has been cold all winter, and it was running great, now it is getting hotter, you may be running a bit rich, and starving for air untill you open her up. this can be adjusted by your jets on the carb. does the exhaust smell as if it has a bunch of unburned fuel in it?
a little tip though... running rich may foul your plugs, but running too lean will blow your motor, so be careful!! if it starts to knock as you are leaning it out, you have gone too far, and need to add more fuel.
