oil leak

04 f-250 fx4 psd. Took it to the dealer last week to have them fix the oil leak, 2 days later they call me back telling me that are going to have to pull the motor to fix the leak. I don't have to bring it back to them till 6-13. The only thing it said on the work sheet they gave me was some part numbers and it said adhesive. The leak is between the trans and engine, he might of said oil pan but not sure. Does this sound familiar to anyone? The truck only has 25,000 miles on it. I just hate the sound of them pulling my engine out because we all know it will never be the same. Any ideas?

you might want to check and see if they are going to replace the head gaskets also I hear they are going to have a major recall on them.

I have a oil leak in the same area, no oil on the ground. My service rep. said they will add dye to my oil to verify where the leak is comming from and proceed from there. My brothers truck had the same leak and they fixed it in less than seven hours.

What series (F-250?) to which are you referring ??

Please keep us up-to-date on this perception. I'm assuming you're referring to the '04s F-250s. Or are you referring to any others (350s ??)

The "recall" is an informed rumor at best. The top techs (tops IMO anyway) in the country are only guessing at what it would include.

As a composite guess however? If there is a comprehensive recall, not a TSB it could easily encompass the entire 6.0 line and might involve head gaskets as well as studs. Ug! Imagine the man-hours that would be involved in that though. The dealerships would be overwhelmed.

How many cabs can an average sized dealership pull in a day / week in order to pop the heads? This would be in addition to normal day to day warranty and $$$ making service issues.

Guess # 2...System wide re-flash...again.

Guess # 3 Lower temp thermostat as a band-aid to possibly keep first guess from happening

We won't know anything for sure until Ford starts shipping parts or and / or makes the announcement.

Oh yeah, Guess # 4....Maybe it's just a rumor.

I have an 04 with a minor oil leak as well. It never drips on the ground and it seems to lay on the bell housing. I wipe it off at everyoil change and it never seems to get worse. I will have it checked out, but for right now the truck only has 4000 miles on it. I have heard a lot about the rear mail seal leaking so that may be your leak and they are going to pull the tranny not the engine. That wont take too long.

Unhappy

I just had to run out and check my new '05 PSD with only 2500 miles on it, and it has the same oil leak. Nothing dripping off, just 'wet' at the bottom of the bell housing. There is a rubber grommet on the bell housing, facing the engine. I was going to pull that out to see if any more oil came out, but the motor is still too hot from the drive home.

My 05 F350 had about 1300 miles on it when I noticed the rear main seal leak. The shop had it fixed in a day.

You should inquire as to just what kind of repair they are going to perform if it is a bed plate leak they will sometimes apply a addheisive to try and stop the leak caused from poor machining I had this problem and my mech/svc dept would'nt hear of useing this bandaid approach to repair internationals mistake bottom I am the proud recipeint of a new engine hope everything goes well for you ask lots of questions of your svc rep and make them explain just what it is they are doing to your 40k investment!!

all joking aside document everything and be involved with the process again good luck ford has taken good care of me but it wasn't without pain
