Buying a SD????

My wife and I are looking at buying a new truck and have a few questions before talking to the dealer tonight. Sorry if this has been addressed before.

The truck will be used for family mobilization (3 kids in car seats and an 80 lb dog) and towing my Jeep (on a trailer) and possibly a camper and horse trailer (prolly of the 2 horse variety). Our requirements are minimal. AC, ABS, tilt and cruise are the only necessities. However, we would like a standard tranny, diesel and a SB. However, I have read that there are a bunch of problems with the 6.0. We will be buying a 2004 (if there are any left) or newer.

Any input on what to look for, what to avoid and other constructive comments would be appreciated.

TIA

I doubt you are going to find any new 04's set up the way you want, but, with that crew of yours I'd be tempted to opt for a crew cab. I also don't think you can get a 6.0 diesel with a standard transmission. I could be incorrect about both of these but I don't think so. The 6.0 PSD and 5 speed automatic transmission are a matched set that function beautifully and in my situation, flawlessly.

The "problems" in the 6.0L you refer to are a thing of the past. They were a factory build problem in the 2003 6.0L engine and were corrected. For the load you're suggesting you're going to carry the PSD is a perfectly powered vehicle.

Yes, it will definately be a CC. A salesman offered me a 6.0 / 6 speed today, so I guess they exist. I am not opposed to an auto though. However, I like a stick, and they are cheaper .

ough. However, I like a stick, and they are cheaper .

And if you know how to drive a stick and don't slip the clutch you'll not have the transmission problems the automatics do. The words "truck",and "towing", have always equaled 6 speed in my book.
