I have a 68 F100 4x4 with manual brakes. I am needing to replace my master cylinder. Would this be the time to change it over to power brakes? Or is there any need to change it over to power brakes? If so, how expensive and how hard would this job be.
Thanks, Kbak
I just changed mine over to power disk. If you can find a donor truck 73/79 everything exchanges. I don't know about just the power part. There are many articles on that change over.
No, it isn't a special time. All you really need for power brakes is to install the booster. You can find them in salvage yards. Go ahead and get a new master and when you have time get a booster. It fits right in there between the firewall and master (so I've been told). I came across a booster a few weeks ago for $15 in a salvage yard but I just haven't had time to put it on. That plus you need a strong vacuum port to plug it to and my manifold isn't equipped with it. I'm gonna have to rig that up somehow. You don't need disc brakes to have power brakes. My buddy has a 72 F100 just like mine except it came with a factory vacuum booster. He has power drum brakes and you can't even tell the difference.
Iam new to the site where would I go to find the articals
Up in the top quarter of this page are a number of buttons. Click on the "Search" button which is the third from the right (logout, quick links, search). Just enter "power brakes" or anothr search term and the program will display all of the posts that contain that term. Good luck.

I have a 72' 4x2 with power brakes. I think my brake booster is going out. I was wondering if the boosters in 73' - 79' are the same as the one I have in my truck ? Could I just get one from one of those years and bolt it up to the master cylinder I have now? Well I know that some one has the answer. Looking forward to finding out. This is the best place I have found on the web to date.
