Hello, my brother is about to buy a 6.0 SD and wanted to hear some opinions on how the 05' is holding up. Have these engines had the problems they did back when they were first released? Has Ford done a good job of correcting these problems from the factory? Thanks for any help

I love mine. 05 F350 6.0L PSD. No problems, everything is perfect. However, I only have 3K miles. Others have given good reports with up to 40k miles or so. A few have reported minor problems but nothing like those with the early 03's. I would say the problems are worked out. It's a great truck.
I have an '05, only 3500 miles but so far its been great. As a bonus I got 19.2 mpg last night driving from NH to Maine. Now that is truely impressive.
I had a 03 replaced because of oil leaks and many other things.I have a 05 king ranch drw f4x4 cc that has never been back for repairs. It only has 3300 miles on it but the 03 had been back numerous times by this time. The 05 is abetter truck with a much better ride plus a lot shorter turning radius.I think they have corrected many of the problems with the early built 03s.
Loved my 05 250 until yesterday. 7500 miles. My concrete drive now has dual transmission fluid racing stripes. Not on any of the recall list, but has broke the spring clip and shoved it through the side of the tranny. Looks like the old problem still not solved.

I agree that there is more of problem but they figured it was just the plow trucks that would be affected but if we push hard enough we will see the same results. My 05 has been very good, got 10k on her and shes a pulling machine with no problems at all.
Rest of the truck build has been great, other than I lost a side carrier bearing in the rear diff., and had some auto trans trouble that still is not corrected.. 7K and change on the clock now..
I only have 740 miles on mine still doing the break-in with her. But I've got to say " I love this beast "
The only problem I have is I can not get this grin off my face.
Hit 8000 miles on my 250 FX4 PSD this morning. It's been to the dealer for:
Leaking fuel around fuel filter O-ring
Ford "loose" steering (can't find nothing wrong with it)
14 mpg (Was told this is good for the '05)
I use the SCMT in HP mode as well, although that has been a bit of a problem of late because I seem to have to keep re-tuning the truck. If I don't it loses all its power
Overall great truck, the 2 issues above are very minor and I can live with the mileage. As for teh SCMT trouble, can't really blame that on Ford now, can I?
i can't speak for the 6.0. but over all the 05/06 sd's are great trucks . this moderators 05 gaser has had one trip to my dealer for a bad gas pedal switch which turned out to a miss bent gas pedal assembly. you will amazed with the smooth highway ride. it's almost like a caddie or linc.
5600 on my 05 PSD 4x4 CC LB my first diesel, I am so impressed with this truck, rides far better than my 98 Expy, quieter, more stable, pulls like a champ, lots of interior room, I just love the sound when that diesel fires up! The only problem is the oil leak from the oil pressure regulator hex nut which is acutually leaking from the front main seal. Its such small leak I almost don't even worry about it, running dye in the oil now.
