dont know to much about the newer ford trucks but just got a 89 f-350 with 460 auto plow truck with 35k anything that is commoningly wrong with these that i might want to fix to pay attion to oh yea the kicker got the truck for free and in good shape
i dont know what tranny dont know to much about the newer trucks but yea has dual tanks did they make a crappy trans and a good one or ???? but will figure out what type
An '89 one-ton with a 460 and auto trans will have a C6 3-speed. The C6 is a good trans and very strong. Only drawback to it is it has no overdrive, but as long as you drive a little slower on the freeway, it's not a big deal. The trucks themselves are very strong and trouble free as long as they are taken care of. Sounds like you got a great truck!
Ok up date sice i got the truck for free i decided lets go four wheeling. Yea bad idea lets say my truck is going to be at the bone yard soon. This truck has no articlulation ended up on the roof weged between trees. Used my buddies 4x's to pull it out and right side up. on the way home my turbo soleniod on my diesel decided not to work while pulling the 89 home, and my buddy snapped the winch cable on my quad last time i lend that out. But very expesive week end
Oh man, that's so sad to hear about the new truck!
Maybe you can part it out and make some money off it instead of sending it to the scrap yard. They give you so little for a truck if the body is no good, regardless of how the drivetrain is.
The Dana 60 reverse rotation kingpin front axle in that truck is worth alot of money if it's in good condition. If the motor, tranny and t-case are any good, they're worth selling too. I'm sure if you went up onto the offroad forum on this website and told them you have a Dana 60 front axle from an '89 F350 to get rid of, you'll probably get a few guys asking for it . If your 460 was a later year, I wouldn't mind having it and the trans to put in my truck sometime in the future. If that 10.25" rear axle has 4.10 gears and a limited slip in it, I'm sure someone will want it too. With only 35K miles on the truck, that drivetrain has to be in descent shape .
I bet you could easily make 3 to 4 times what the boneyard will give you for the whole truck just on selling the drivetrain components alone, not even considering all the other little stuff that people are bound to be wanting from the rest of the truck. I would run an ad in the local parts trader and sell what I could off it before getting rid of the hulk.
