15-20 years ago I was on the beach at Rocky Point, Mexico, and saw what looked like a "truncated" '78 F150. The bed/wheelbase was about 2 foot shorter than a standard S/B 4WD. Everything looked factory, no cutting or body work was obvious. I just figured the fellow was really talented at fabrication. Several years later I read an article in one of the 4WD mags that featured just such a vehicle...assembled with Ford OEM parts off the shelf...! Apparently, you can take a '78-'79 Bronco chassis, graft a cab from a regular truck, and, using a particular factory shortbed from, I believe an earlier F350 crew cab, build your own "Bobtail". Ever since, I have wanted to do such a project. Anyone else remember seeing this article, and, specifically, recall the donor truck for the "extra short" bed?
I've never heard of such a thing. The only boxes I know of are the standard 6' short bed and standard 8' long bed - I've never heard of another length. Is there a gap between the cab and bed, or is a unibody like the Bronco? Any more info or pics would be great...
The Article I read described the "shorter bed" to only be available on an F350 crewcab with what I understood to be something less than the longer wheelbase normally associated with a crewcab. The box looked just like a full size...it was just shorter from the front of the wheelwell to the front of the box. The cab was a normal P/U cab. The details of this thing are driving me crazy....
