94' E350, Dual A/C. When I run fans, Temp and Oil gauges climb in direct proportion w/ fan speed. Cleaned body ground from harness behind driver's kick panel, Pulled cluster and cleaned thick film connectors, still the same.
For what it's worth, had the same problem with an '85, so this might help. Check the ground strap from battery to frame and ensure you are getting a good connection. Cleaned mine up and the problem went away immediately.
My '92 did it too.. I think it's in the way the gauges are powered. My volt meter would also climb. On a long trip it would start out in the middle of the gauge, and work it's way up to the high end of the normal range.
I bought OEM electrical trouble shooting manual for the 94' Econoline. Traced and cleaned every single ground and all power distribution circuits. Problem improved but still lives. Took it to my local dealer, they gave up. (at least they didn't try to charge for nothing). When I want to know what the gauge is actually reading, I guess you have to trust them, they read normal w/ A/C off, I briefly turn the A/C off.
i have the same problem. my electrical ts manual (87 e150 302fi) pointed me to the IVR or instrument voltage regulator. not sure if you got one on your year but it causes gauges to freak out. i haven't replaced mine since i have no a/c and do not run the heat often. my year i believe it's located in the dash. good luck
