I've had this ongoing problem with my 05 F350 lariat since day one....Smoked really bad until 5000 miles..Now with 6500 miles still smokes but only when going up a hill at the top...The other day i was on a hill stopped in traffic..The car to the right of me started honking his horn and cursing at me to shut my engine off because he couldn't breathe....The smell and smoke is sometimes unbearable...
I went to my dealer again and luckily there was a engineer from ford there that day.....They hooked up a computer monitor to my truck inside the cab with a button that i push when this smoking thing happens....It's supposed to take special readings from the trucks computer and record them....They call it pictures of whats happening...I already took 2 pictures...2 more tests to do..then they send the computer back to Detriot for evaluation....Hopefully
they find this problem....I 'm sick of this, the smell, the headaches ( from the rich diesel) and the nasty people in traffic...
For years i always wanted my own diesel truck..I always borrowed my friends
I buy one finally and 2 things happen.......Diesel prices skyrocket and a smoker ( a lemon )
Got tests evaluated...Ford said EGR valve opening up at idle causing excessive smoke...But it was not throwing any codes .They ordered new EGR...Hopefully this solves my smoking problems..I'll know by next week
If fact i do....Maybe a lemon was harsh..but i was going thru this smoking thing with 2 dealers that thought i was nuts....I even took a video of it and showed the second dealer..this is what prompted them to contact a Ford engineer...
I also have alot of clunks coming from the underneath of the truck front and back....This issue i will deal with after the Egr valve is replaced
Its been a month and no sign of my EGR valve..Ford says still on order...meanwhile my truck is getting 8 mph, smells worse and is smoking more....Whats up with ford.???
Wish i knew what direction to go....I have had this problem since 800 miles...now at 6900 its getting worse
dang I wonder if its as bad as my truck when I put the edge on level 5 with most responsive lol
mine did that when i had a bad ebp sensor, hows the power on your truck? does is feel strong though? or is it pretty sluggish?
Stock program, smokes on hills and when idling really bad...alot of smoke, other cars on the side and behind me start yelling...lol...cusing, etc....Ford said EGR stuck open at idle causing this problem...Truck a bit sluggish when taking off from a dead stop..otherwise, seems to have power as long as the rpm's are up..I mentioned the EBP sensor to my dealer....They want to do the EGR first....How long would you wait for a part????
you should try disconnecting the EGR valve see if that changes anything, and then leave it off for good.
but make sure you pull the plug while the truck is shut off
Already tried that..no change because the egr is stuck in the open position...anyway just got a phone call from my dealer..Part is in...Wednesday...i'll know if it corrects the problem....My personal opinion..I think its more than just an EGR valve...As you said earlier..maybe the EBP sensor also...we'll see
Well i'm impressed.....NO SMOKE...More power...It took 9 months to find the problem with my truck....I saw the bad egr.valve It was stuck in the in the open position...There was alot of carbon, soot also..I wonder if this caused the problem and if there is any addidtive that i can use to stop it from happening again...
sting454, as you are probably already aware, the EGR Valve continues to be a nightmare for the 6.0. It is apparent to me that this issue has not been resolved with EGR Valve enhancements to the '05.
You can help the situation by going to a "CI4 plus" rated oil which offers less soot / carbon deposits and fuel adds @ each fuel up. See this thread for discussion: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...t=beachbumcook
And / or....you can always disable the pesky WART in the closed position.
