Pulling Codes From A 1996?

I have a 96 Bronco w/ 5.8L. I'm not having any engine troubles now but would like to be able check for any stored codes in the computer. Is there any easy way to do this as with the earlier year motors or am I going to have to buy a code reader? If so does anyone have a recomendation on an OBD code reader that works well without breaking the bank?

You'll need an OBD-II scanner to read that one. Harbor Freight sells a cheap one. Autozone will read the codes for free for you.

With an OBD II system, if the check engine light is not lit, there are no stored codes to read. In depth historical data can only be viewed with a more sophisticated code reader (dealer) or by purchasing a computer program that emulates the high end systems and lets you look deep inside your computer.

Thanks for that info. I guess I'll wait until the check engine light comes on one of these days before I go buy a scanner. That program you linked to looks sweet. Too bad it's a little high dollar for what I would need it for.
