Windshield wipers not working

Hello all,
Anyone know why the wipers and the stereo on my '91 F-150 would quit working?? Both have been turning on and off all last week. Earlier this week they just quit turning on. It seems to be power related because they'll turn on, but for about 1/2 of a second. I don't know where to begin looking though. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rey

Rey,
Id start at the fuse box and work your way along the wiring harness ..to the wiper switch and so on . Im pretty sure they both have their own circuits and fuses . I think your truck still had the wiper switch on the dash and not the turn signal ? I cant recall how or if those 2 circuits are related ? Just use your test light and watch for wires that are chafed or broken . Hope you get it fixed ...

The wipers may have a circuit breaker as well as a fuse. The circuit breaker, if one, is probably the culprit. Check both anyway, as well as all the fuses and breakers. You may also check for loose ground straps at the firewall and dash.

Phillip,
Thanks for your response. I did check the fuses and they checked out ok. I read about the circuit breakers in my Haynes manual, but I'm a little confused. According to the manual, the circuit breakers are located in the fuse panel. Is the term "circuit breaker" another word for fuse?

Paul,
Thanks for your response. The wiper switch is on the dash. It's the standard Off/Low/Hi switch. I did check the fuse box and all appears to be fine. I'll trace the wires next to see if anything turns up there. I don't know how the wipers and the stereo are related either?? Any chance you know what's involved in changing the wiper switch from a standard to an interval system?

Windshield wipers not working

It turns out the problem with the windshield wipers and the stereo not working was the ignition switch. Just today, the truck would turn off. No power, nothing. The only way it would stay on is by holding the ignition key to the on position. If it moved just a bit, it would turn off. I lowered the steering column and noticed the ignition switch was slightly seperated from the wiring harness. As soon as I squeezed them together, the wipers turned on. I changed out the switch and all is well.
