4.9 in van? help? performance
hi, i know this is a pick up site but has anyone owned/owns the ford van with the 4.9 inline 6 ? what do they go like ? top speed? its a small swb van with auto box
will it spin wheels from a standing start or is gearbox more relaxed?

I've owned 2 . both E100'swith a 303 3spd on the collumn.
with 3.00 gears they would both go 70-75 with no problem.
faster if the front ends were better.
they can spin if the van is empty.
building a 300 in a van is hard. The engine is TALL and the carb sits in the middle of the engine and its into the body of the van, not just under the dogbox. your really limited to a stock intake and carb because there just isn't any room to bolt anything onto it. you also have to use the really restrictive air cleaner box that puts the filter over the valvecover.
It will haul all the tools and cargo you can stuff into the van with no problem though.
