I turned the key and get a click from the solenoid on the firewall, but no turn from the starter. Battery is good, wacked the starter with a hammer with key turned in start position didn't work...
Any ideas on how to get this thing running? I played with the neutral safety switch and didn't get anything. I noticed the battery light flickered a little with the key in the start position.
I tried it in N or P...brake on or off...fiddled with the alarm buttons...
I had him turn all things that would take power, heat, lights, radio, etc and when he tried to start it the lights didn't dim...I don't think it's a bad battery just by observation...I feel as though it's something else.
It's stuck at our office, I havn't been there since I made the thread, but I'm going in tomorrow...
Only thing I can check is the cruise control shutoff switch I guess...other then that w/o me really tearing into it I can't figure it out. Not much I can do w/o it being on a lift or in my garage. He will probably end up having it towed.
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the '92+ Fords all permanent magntet style? You usually wind up doing more damage then good to then trying that. I had a Dodge one die and hitting it never worked but then once I talked to a shop they also said that they have never been able to get any newer starter to work with that trick. I can't for the life of me remember anything other than the magnets crack really easy, there was another reason but I can't remember at the moment.
did you ck if the solenoid had power on the starter side when it clicked?thats one way to find out if it's really the starter or your solenoid.this is a common problem with Fords.
