Well Kevin (Kessler), I fixed my fuel pump leak and cranked up Earl for a half hour yesterday evening. No fuel leak, and better yet, that old rear main seal seems to be healing itself as some joker ('fenders comes to mind) on the board said it might. Ran it up to 4,000 RPM and not a drop of oil out it's butt. Sooooo, it looks like I have more than met the minimum criteria for a free pass to the midwest mini-meet, whenever that is. Hint Hint
I also took off the 14 layers of sheet aluminum that the PO had attached to the lower cab corners (and other areas of the cab). Despite the comment from my son, Evan, that "It sure as hell seems like your nuts trying to fix that.", I'm forging ahead and removing all the exterior and interior mechanical parts in preparation for sandblasting. Evan is 22, what the heck does he know?
I can't work on Earl's World or upload photos for posting just now 'cuz the administrators think I haven't paid my Club FTE dues. I can assure you (as I've assured them), that I have the receipt in my grubby little hands. As soon as I get my access back, I'll post some of the cab carnage photos. It ain't pretty, and should be a nice challenge to fix it up.
Nice to hear that rear main seal is fixing itself. You are nuts for trying to fix that cab. Mines not half as bad as yours and I'm already looking for a rust free big-win. Good luck with the body work, it's not easy finding someone to do bodywork or paint, so pick a good painter(or you going to attempt it yourself?) -4speed
Haven't even thought about the paint yet. You haven't seen the cab without all the "repairs" yet either - it's actually a lot worse than the stuff on Earl's World right now. Since I'm bullheaded (my wife and daughter's term when they aren't using four-letter words), I'm gonna fix that cab come he!! or high water. Might take some time and $$$, but what the heck, I've already spent the retirement money.
I think I'm in trouble. Kevin's painted the engine; you've fixed the oil leak; aaaand I've made no progress at all. Actually I've gone backwards, since someone was looking at the truck tonight & slammed the door on the trouble light cord....which needs repair now for some reason.
Maybe I need you to come over & slam the door on it again, since "doing nothing" seemed to have worked just fine for your rear main seal.
My advice on the bodywork finances: rent out your son as a second income. After all, wasn't it originally supposed to be HIS truck? Kids...sheesh... Mine think it's funny to write things in the thick layer of dust on the truck...and the wife encourages it.
Good to hear you're making headway George. I got a solid day and a half in this weekend. I'm missing my June 1 "Back on the road again" goal. But it's looking like a truck today. Invited Sis, (and here big hubby) over today for BBQ and Effie hood install fest. Front clip is color sanded and ready for compounding. Color match is reasonable. Running board paint is rough, probably live with it for now. Got some time in on Momma's Mustang. Circling it like a buzzard as it looks like a nice donor car for an F100 upgrade down the road. That front clip and rear disk rearend looking like it could work. But that's another thread. I don't want to bore Rob.
If it makes all of you feel better, I have a parade in my old hometown that I'm committed to entering, and my family is even working on a sign to put in the bed of my '51. The parade is June 18th, my flathead is still in the machine shop, my wiring harness JUST showed up, I still have to get the fenders and new box painted, and I'm a little stressed........aarrghhhhhh
Nothing like a deadline to get the adrenaline pumping, eh Gary? I feel for ya. I HATE deadlines. I actually get a lot more done, at least at work, when I'm not under a deadline.
