All will be well with a straight pipe, upgrade to a 3" single or 2.25" or 2.5" true duals and some kind of free flowing muffler even.

If you leave the stock exhaust on there its not going to help a whole lot, but if you do what 351M said, 2.5" true duals w/ see-through or no mufflers, it will wake your truck up, assuming its not turbo.

I wouldnt even bother witha muffler. soon im going w/ a 3" turbo downpipe to a 5" pipe...it will exit in front of my rear pass. tire

Might as well toss the radio at that point, the exhaust is going to sound way better then any music could.

I put 3" duals on w/see through glasspacks.. Very loud when shifting and the windows down. With the windows up at cruising speed though, it's not bad.. can still hear the stock radio at a moderate level.

DONT put the exhuast infront of the rear tire!! Big mistake. The whitewall lettering on my tire is blak within a week after washing it and if I dont polish my rims the smoke eats away the chrome finish and leaves rust spots all over. I want to get my stacks on soon before the new rim looses all its finish.

What about 6.9 naturally aspirated? Any power changes? How loud would it be?

On non turbo run a set of duals from the exhaust manifolds back. I saw a set up that ran 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 in to a straight thru muffler with a 4 in single out let that exited after the rear tires.

Do you remember the folks who manufacture the two-into-one setup that you saw? When checking out 3" exhaust systems, I came across a cool looking setup that used dual 2.5" or 3" pipes back to a two-inlet muffler, and then 3" pipe from the muffler to behind the rear wheel. I forgot to save the webpage. (dang!) Auto-Jet also does a really nice system, with 3" pipes and a low restriction muffler. Total cost to me here in east TX is right at $300. Not bad.

Yeah, cant wait for the sound of the turbo spooling up... I may not do that now, however, having heard about the chrome problems... guess Ill just run it out back. But still 5". Maybe stacks...

Non turbo with a straight pipe is pretty loud. At idle, it just has a slight rumble. But under load and decelerating from higher engine speeds, its pretty obnoxious. If you're easy on the throttle, it doesn't arouse too much attention from the law. I haven't felt a power increase, but the mileage dropped a little. Mainly because I'm shifting about 2800 instead of 23-2500 rpm just to hear it make more noise (and to rattle the windows on the imports a little bit )
