Distributor For 400 build
I've read quite a few posts about the merits and demerits of performance distributors and such, and am leaning toward a stock Motorcraft Duraspark ll instead of duraspark l or high output stuff.
I can't find my receipt showing choices, but it seems parts people wanted to know whether I had dual or single advance? I've asked this once before and think it's single, but it's been awhile and I need to verify.
I will be using the DS-II distributor on my 400. The 400 is not a high RPM engine so you do not need an ignition system designed for 6K+ RPM operation.
Don't use an RV cam. Use a Comp Cam 255DEH or 265DEH but you will get better mileage with the 255.

The CompCam 255 DEH with the "K" kit and matching dual roller timing set is sitting in a box on more computer room floor. I probably went this route from your ealier recommendation, though I thought the 255DEH was an RV cam.
I won't be using EGR, so it's the 1971 400 LTD Duraspark ll. They offer both the single and dual diaphragm. I messed up when I said dual advance.
I don't like the sound of "modify the advance arm", but trust it's in the doable range for a first timer.
