My differential has been making a noise such as a clanking noise when it's
placed in reverse. It seems to back up just fine with no hesitation. Now when I have a trailer behind me, it really doesn't want to push it. I really have to rev
the rpms up in order to move a light trailer. My truck is a 70F100. I am wanting
to know if it's the ring and pinion gear. If it is or isn't, any suggestions?
It could be. Could be the bearings as well. I'd crawl under and see if you have any side to side, or in and out play on the pinion. Then put it on stands, truck in nuetral and rotate the tires, and axle, feeling for slop, noises, grating etc.
