Get lots of grease to grease the bushings, and DON'T tighten the bushings all the way until the truck is sitting on the ground. I found this out the hard way on my 72 Ventura II. I replaced all the bushings and tightened them up with the thing still in the air. After a few miles, the bushings were all twisted up and the springs wouldn't move up and down freely.
thanks. thats one i would have figured out the hard way!
is there a "easier way to remove and replace the bushings or is simply pressing them in with a vise the best way.
a friend mentioned that i might have to torch out the old ones. fun!
You could either drill a series of holes into the old bushing and then take an old screwdriver and pry the pieces out, or you could get a jigsaw and cut them out. Either way, it might be some work if they decide to stick around.
If your just getting spring eye bushings, they should come in 2 pieces split down the middle so they would just slide in. If you decide to do all of your bushings, you will eventually need to press some of them out and right back in again.
