Question emergency regulator help please!

I am working on a 1989 F350, 7.3 Diesel. We recently purchased this truck and are working through one of the many problems! It has a charging issue.
The FUSEABLE link from the alternator (black/orange BAT+) -where it links with yellow/white- has burnt up the link. I have replaced the link with a FUSED link as well as a brand new 90amp alternator and regulator. When I hook up the yellow/white wire to the black/orange wire according to the manual's schematic, it blows my fuse.
My alternator is putting out 90+ Volts DC at idle. I am getting 27.4 DC volts out of my yellow/white wire at the 'A' terminal of the voltage regulator. What is happening? What does the yellow/white wire do at the 'A' terminal? Where does it go?
Please help, any and all suggestions and/or knowledge is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

Make sure you have the yellow wire going to the "A" terminal AND the alt output wire (black/orange) both hooked to the battery +. The factory usually does this at the starter relay, but you have a diesel so it may be a little different. Whatever you do, do not run the alternator without the battery connected to it. The only thing that holds the output down close to 12 volts is the battery.

The "A" terminal is the sensing wire for the regulator. The voltage of the system is fed into the regulator through this wire, and the regulator takes this info and varies the voltage on the field wire of the alt, thus varying the output of the alternator.

What are you using to replace the fusible link? You should get another on ethat same size(color) at the store and solder it in. It is hard to get a regular fuse that is big enough to handle the current. It can be up around 100 amps for short periods of time.
