Question 1992 explorer a/c

I have a 1992 Explorer that the a/c compressor kicks in and out . It will engage for about 2 seconds and the disengage for a couple seconds. I can feel and hear the cycle pressure switch opening and closing . I have put 2 cans of 134a in it(has the kit) and was wondering what the switch opening and closing means. Thanks Deane

Probably means it is low on refrigerant. The low pressure cut out switch, which is on the reciever dryer, is designed to do this to help prevent compressor damage and pulling non-condensables (air) into the system. You may consider putting in a can of leak detector to see if any visible spot shows up where it's leaking. If you put a guage on the low pressure side, you'll probably see the switch cutting out when it reaches around 26 - 30 psig.

i would check for leaks as well, but also in a 92 it is r-12 and not the r-134a unless you coverted it to r-134a,
