Not Loud Enough

Put a Gibson single side exit on the 4x4 yesterday and was disappointed that it is almost as quiet as stock. I was aware that the Gibson was not that loud but was expecting more tone. It was a pretty simple installation,n although I had to trim about an inch of the tail section to get the hangers to line up. Hopefully over time it will mellow out.

I just put it out there for anyone who is thinking about changing their exhaust. After all this I really think those who opted for just exchanging their muffler and not the whole system where about $300 better off.

I was thinking about the supertruck system. Is that the one you put on there?

You truely only need the entire exhaust system if you go supercharger route. Adding an intake or tuner only really needs a muffler change to get it's full benefit. But some people like the looks of an entire exhaust replacement.

I cut the muffler out, solves all the problems, sounds cool and its deffinatley loud. The best part is when driving at highway speeds with the windows up you can't here any extra noise inside the cab. It's cheap to do too.

and I bet the only time you have an issue is when you get your truck inspected, huh? Not to mention the defective or missing emissions system component ticket the state troopers are so fond of giving.

I'd be more worried about sucking in carbon monoxide at stop signs. You can pay a ticket... Brain cells are harder to replace...

I changed my exhaust a month or so ago I was dissapointed with the sound at first too. I am big on magnaflow I have had them on my last two vehicles I was mostly out for performance. It was quieter than I wanted But it has deepened out a little though I got used to it and there is no annoying highway drone.

just to point out, Robin bc cut the muffler out, not the cat.
i assume he put a straight pipe in it's place???? no effect on emmisions (other than sound emmisions)

These engines are quite muffled by the cats before they even get to the muffler. I opted for a Raven muffler (cut out the factory) and it was nicely louder, but not enough where the wife would gripe about the noise. Personally, I like loud exhaust but figured this was at least a little better.

Years ago, we used to remove 2 or even all 4 of the catalytics on our old 5.0 Mustangs and the sound was sweet. Didn't pass emissions, but we always had an unmolested set to bolt up for the test.

I had a Vortex single in, dual outlet muffler installed on my 04 with the 4.6 and it sounds awesome. I have had numerous compliments on it.
