Eeew. That's ugly. You gonna tease your mom about autocrossing your truck? Following too closely? Remember, in an F150, you don't stop for small cars, you drive over them. Civic hoods are the perfect approach angle for any sort of lifted truck.
Your pretty funny... nah I didn't tease my mom about it. I just asked her nicely if she had noticed anything wrong with the brakes. She kept asking me what I thought happened to it and I told her well the truck is 10 years old and it's probabally just a weak brake line. When I take it in friday I'll have them fix that and check the whole brake system, flush the old fluid out and replace it with new stuff. The braking system is one not to ignore. I know my truck doesn't stop near as good as my car and that needs brakes too, lol. I already have the pads and rotors for it and I can't wait to get them on, it might stop on a dime then. Having two vehicles is a good thing but it's also double the maintenance. If your not working on one then your working on the other. I hope the time goes by fast and everything heals up as I'll have a lot of catching up to do. I already have some projects lined up in my head.
Heck i work on my truck just to keep busy usually drive my car for work cept the last 2 days but more of just playing with it since i redid the exhaust.
Question for those of you running too vehicles. . . is the difference in fuel savings enough to cover the extra insurance, upkeep and fueling the smaller vehicle?
When I had comp/collision on my car it killed me then when I got it paid off I put liability and that saved me a ton of money. The car payment was $268 and I was paying $210 a month for insurance on the car and the 91 explorer I had, then when I paid the car off and reduced insurance it dropped a lot. Now with the car and the truck (which I have comp/collision on that) I pay $130 a month, so I'm saving $80 a month just in insurance. I don't drive the car that much because of that cause I don't want to deal with the hassle if it's my fault or not. I have a lot more money now cause as I don't really drive that much and theres noway I'd spend the extra $80 a month on gas, plus I get to keep my $268 each month. So if you have a car thats paid off and doesn't cost a whole lot to maintain then I would say yeah it's worth the savings.
Well 14-16 mpg versus 25-30 makes one big difference, plus my truck by itself on my dad's policy it was running about 350 every 6 mo (crazy) liability. with both my escort/truck (escort isnt' worth much) on liability i'm paying about 300 every 6 months. (I've got good news...;-) it also pays to be over 25 and have clean record. with my 2nd car it was free (just had to pick it up and drive it down) and I do my own maintenance so upkeep is easy (plus escort parts are plenty on ebay, and super cheap) and i have a 2nd car which means i have all the time to get it working. before if i had to fix something on my truck, i had to get it done or i didn't get to work. One big thing for me that isn't in $$ is stress. I don't have it anymore with maintence..car work is fun now. I think it's cheaper for folks that have 2 older vehicles and can do their own work. Key is getting a 2nd vehicle that is very fuel efficient, and Cheap to work on and reliable, and cheap to buy.
Still 21 here, my insurance on my truck is about $450+ every 6 months I think its full coverage, and I have a clean record. I might be able to tweek the numbers down, but I do like driving a truck, I can't stand cars Maybe a late 70's F150, stepside, short bed, 2wd with a 6 banger. Thats about as fuel efficient as I'm willing to go. Ok, maybe a newer ranger
got the brakes fixed today and I was so happy that I transported an aerostar for my brother. He bought it from someone that works for him and all it needs is a transmission and the cats are completly clogged up. I towed it home from Charlottesville on a 16ft trailer. We decided to take 64 over afton mtn. to 340 in Waynesboro and head back to Elkton, that way I didn't have to deal with the mtn. on 33 with all that weight. I have to say the truck done good, although I will say that I can't wait till I get a zf for it so I can get rid of the mazda.
