My 91 f150 302 4x4 5speed gas mileage has been declining over the past six months. when I first bought the truck 2 years ago it would average 17to18 mpg this was highway and interstate driving. I have even had a high of 20.5 mpg. I always would figure my mileage on the front tank only,but it seems like when the rear tank was full iwould get more miles out of my front tank making my mpg better.Iwas wondering if it is possible that the engine could be drawing from both tanks at the same time.This would make you think you were getting better mileage than you were.I now only run the front tank and my mileage is around 14.5 , which seems alright compared to others figures on the board, but it is frustrating becaus i always got better. Could an oxygen sensor be the cause to my mpg drop? Feul injection engines are far better than carb ones , but where is the mpg difference. It seems to my that our trucks could all be getting close to 20 mpg if it wasnt for all of the emission crap that they design into a fuel injected engine.
