Hi i was needing to know on a 2004 ford f-150 it has backup sensors if they can be turned off like if you was to pull a trailer and what you have to do to turn them off,is there a website or something i could download and print what it says about backup sensors, thanks so much
The manual will tell you, but if you have the Reverse Sensing System (RSS), then there's a button down near your ashtray on the dash that has a big "P" on it. Push that to temporarily turn off the RSS system.
The truck i was asking about isn't mine,I was in an accident and the guy who hit me said he has backup sensors on his 2004 ford f-150 4x4 truck and said they can't be turned off and he couldn't have backed into me,i was needing something to show they can be turned off cause i have a suite in small claims court for my damages which was $2300 since his insurance comp is trying to make me pay for $930 worth of damages he said i caused.I am trying to find someone to tell me what would have happened to my car if i would have hit him going 10-15 mph.and what would have happened if he would have hit me backing up,the work done to his truck said they replace the trailer hitch $517,My headlight and corner of my hood and plastic around headlight was all busted when he backed into me cause his hitch knocked them out.The place where i got my estimate said if i would have hit him i would have had to slam on my brakes and would have smashed my whole front end and ended up under his truck.I have a 1994 ford taurus lx.Thanks for all the help.
Sorry, I do not own an F-150, but my father has an Excursion that has the reverse sensing system. I dont know if it will help but I can scan the part of the manual that talks about it and send it to you in a PDF. It would probably be better though if you could get it out of an F-150 manual though even though it probably will say the exact same thing just so he cant argue with it in court.
Backup sensors do not work 100% of the time. That's why the manual says to look anyway. If he talks about relying on his backup sensors, and not looking, he will lose in court.
Just saying that the sensors would have warned him, is saying that he wasn't looking when he was backing...
Get a lawyer, or at least talk to a paralegal. He has no case.
Chris
Just because you have back up sensors does not allow you to drive by sound of the beepers, in my opinion. You still need to look where you are going. When people start driving by feel and sound we are all in trouble.Good Luck!
On the 04's, when the reverse sensors are turned off, they are off until you turn them back on or until the truck is turned off. My friend had an 02 250 with reverse sensors and they would only remain off until you put the vehicle back in drive. Here is the page in the 2004 f150 manual that tells you how to turn them off. If it doesnt post or it gets deleted, pm me and I will email you the jpg. As everyone else said, you can't let the sensors drive for you...he has no case.
The factory sensors can be turned off. He may have an after market installation which he may not be able to turn off (doubtful!!) Do get a lawyer. I would be willing to bet he will claim you rear ended him......
Hi thanks so much for all the replies, yes he is claiming i rear ended him but he really backed into me saying he couldn't have cause he can't turn sensors off,The state is going to suspend my license if i don't pay the $930 they say i owe for his damages, thats why i filed an appeal to hearing officer to say i wasn't at fault but he said all the crap about sensors,so i filed a law suite in small claims court but i need to have a paper that says u can turn off sensors and what would have happened if i would have hit him going 10-15 mph,him in his truck and me in my 1994 ford taurus.I go to court tomorrow the 1st.thanks all so much.
Good luck...If you need all the pages on the reverse sensing system, let me know...I can email them to you or post them in my gallery. It looked liker there were about 5 pages.
Fordmama2 - your email did not come through...you'll have to be a little more creative when you post it next time. I put 3 pics in my gallery. Just select my name and a drop down will appear. Select View Gallery and select the 04 SCREW gallery. The pages are in there.
Forgot to mention: I was backing out of my driveway a few weeks ago and my RSS beeped once. Being very cautious, I hit the brakes and got out just to be sure I wasn't running over anything. My 3 yr old's tricycle was half way under the back bumper. These sensors are not fool proof. Good luck.
He was probably going 1-2 mph we was waiting for gas pumps and he backed up approx 10 feet to let the person he was waiting for leave and seen the car i was waiting for start to leave so he proceeded to back up and thats when he hit me.I don't know why he wanted the pump i was waiting for because the one he was waiting for was open.He had only had the truck 10days and this happened,he admitted to us it was his fault and he was sorry untill the cops got there and he blamed me and like a dummy i didn't have insurance thats why noone believes me and i have to fight this out.I do now so if this ever happens again which i hope it doesn't the insurance companies can fight it.thanks crissy
