Rusting Oil Pan
Both my 92 Aerostar (3.0) and my 95 F150 (4.9) have rusting oil pans. My mechanic (who used to be a Ford dealer mechanic) says there is nothing you can do but replace the pan when it gets really bad. I wonder, though, why can't I wire brush the thing and paint it with a rust inhibiting paint. I see in the store by the auto body touch up-paint display a primer that claims to turn rust to primer (though it says to clean it up first). Anybody have this problem and/or a solution?

I've not experienced the problem, but I do have a rust free oil pan from my swap from my '82 300 that I would sell for about $25 plus shipping. With or without the pan bolts, your choice.

Rusty oil pan seem to be a problem on 300-6s. I atribute this to the recycled steel being used more and more these days. The rust is practically "built in" to many steel parts. Periodically cleaning and painting (or powder coating" will extend a parts life. Even with this, rust outs are eventually inevitable. Just something we have to live with.
