86 F150 with EFI 302. After it warms up it surges going down the road. You can feel the power drop off without loosing any speed. If you give it a little more gas you don't get any gain in speed. Finally you'll feel it pick up and go like it should. It can also make it hard to pick up speed in 2nd gear, it will accelerate, but feels like something is bogging it down.
Don't have any problems until it's up to operating temp. Sometimes it stalls out at stops after warmed up too.
I'm not getting any codes either? It's tuned up and all, new egr valve and sensor havn't changed anything. TPS? Ignition module? Oh, also have an msd box on there.
I have found the fuel filter to be the problem on several of these Fords. Not the big one that everyone changes, but the smaller paper one in the fuel reservoir (mounted before the high pressure fuel pump, after the in tank low pressure fuel pumps)
This one is normally negleted, and according to the Ford truck service manual (1986) it lists this filter "as lasting for the life of the vehical" so you can see why it is ignored. HA!
Thanks for the tip. I had changed the front filter several times and finally changed the rear one. You are right, it was BLACK when I took it out. I can't believe it ran like that. Maybe I'll check it again just in case...
